about

Original Lyrics by Sonia Victor
Original Music by Hennoch Kon

Hankus discovered this song on a hand-written manuscript in a suitcase that Arthur Victor, Sonia Victor’s son, Arthur, brought to the Yiddish Book Center in Amherst, MA in the summer of 2008. It brought together Arthurs’s mother’s lyrics with the music of renowned Polish-Jewish
composer, Hennoch Kon.

lyrics

English Translation:
Sleep, my beautiful little one, you are still quite small
You will grow and blossom gloriously and hearts will be drawn to you.
Sleep now, my child, close your pretty little eyes. you should be loved by people rich and poor alike,
This is my wish, my dearest hope, that I live to experience joy from you.
