Hankus collected these two tunes from Morris Hollender, and Auschwitz survivor, Torah reader, folksinger, and baal-tefile from Upper-Remete in Carpato Ruthenia. His Uncle Shloyme improvised the first melody during the Musaf service on Rosh Hashana (the Jewish new year) and the second tune in the medley is a dance tune that the Hollender family liked to sing on Friday nights.
